The GCI Outdoor Freeform Zero Gravity Lounger: Review

Zero gravity loungers have been around for a while now. They’re meant to distribute your weight evenly, ensuring maximum relaxation, and they’re effective. The fully reclined position reduces stress on your heart and increases blood circulation. Their design hasn’t changed at all over the years, until now.

Zero gravity loungers have two positions: upright and fully reclined. In the upright position, your legs are still hanging down, and GCI Outdoor wanted to change that. They introduced a third position that allows the user to elevate their legs and lock the chair. This is what sets the GCI Outdoor Freeform Zero Gravity Lounger apart from every other chair on the market.

On the last 50 Campfires trip, I had the chance to test this chair out for four days in northern Minnesota, and I can say that it is a significant improvement to the design. If you’re hanging out around the campfire, a full recline takes you out of the conversation. Yes, it’s comfortable, but everyone assumes that you’re taking a nap (which would be fine, too). Raising your legs and locking the chair introduces a new level of luxury, and you’re still upright so you can chat with your fellow campers. I think it’s an addition that needed to happen.

The GCI Outdoor Freeform Zero Gravity Lounger has a mesh back for breathability, a phone and beverage holder, and an adjustable pillow. The chair weighs in at about 17 lbs and folds flat for easy transport. After a few nights around the campfire, I can say that it’s the most comfortable camping chair I’ve ever tested. It’s slightly more bulky than others, but hey – car camping is all about creature comforts. You’ll be glad that it made the trip with you.
